Palantir Takes Sovereign AI From Aventura to Tampa General Companies

Summary: Aventura-based Palantir says L3Harris, McCarthy, NVIDIA, Ondas and Tampa General are building sovereign AI on their own data. A Florida hospital is using it to keep patient data local.

Most companies rent their AI. A few now want to own it.

Aventura-based Palantir says a new wave of customers is doing exactly that. It calls the idea sovereign AI: models trained on a company’s own data, running under its own control.

The customers include L3Harris, McCarthy Building Companies, NVIDIA, Ondas and a Florida hospital, Palantir said.

Why Own the Model?

The pitch is simple. A frontier model knows a little about everything. A sovereign model knows a lot about one business.

McCarthy, one of America’s oldest construction companies, trained a small model on its own project questions. It flags risks before they reach a job site.

“No one else can pick it up, because it is tuned to how we build,” said Rico Bertucci, McCarthy’s vice president of strategic initiatives.

L3Harris makes a bolder claim. It says a sovereign model beat the frontier labs in its test environment within days. It also says costs fell 95%.

Those are company claims. The release offers no independent test.

The logic is still easy to follow. Defense contractors cannot send mission data to a general-purpose model they do not control.

That is why the first buyers are in regulated fields. Defense, construction and health care all punish a wrong answer.

Palantir’s role is the plumbing. It connects a customer’s systems, then lets the customer train and govern the model on top.

A Florida Hospital Keeps Its Data Home

The most striking customer is closer to home. Tampa General Hospital has used Palantir since 2021.

It uses the software to cut patient hold times, plan nurse staffing, respond to storms and flag early signs of sepsis.

Now it wants tighter control over its own AI. The hospital is building sovereign AI that keeps sensitive data and model processing local.

The models classify AI traffic against Tampa General’s own risk and privacy standards. Existing tools can flag traffic, the release says, but not with that much control.

Palantir says the tuned model improved performance and cut delay by a factor of 22.

“AI innovation in health care only works if our patients and team members can trust it,” said Dr. Jaimie Weber, the hospital’s associate chief medical informatics and AI strategy officer.

Hospitals handle some of the most private data any institution holds. Sending it to an outside model is a risk many boards will not take.

Aventura Sells the Sovereign Idea

The story fits a pattern MAIN has followed. Palantir moved its headquarters to Aventura in February.

This month, MAIN reported that Palantir and Ondas launched Regna AI, a company built to sell sovereign models to governments. Ondas is based in West Palm Beach.

Ondas chairman and CEO Eric Brock says Palantir’s tools let his team fold an acquisition into the company in weeks.

Palantir is also selling to finance. MAIN covered the hire of AIG’s former chief executive to lead its financial services push.

Sovereign AI has local roots beyond Palantir. SOVAIR.AI in Miami Beach builds air-gapped AI that keeps models and data inside the customer’s boundary.

Palantir and SOVAIR.AI sell to different buyers. Both bet that control, not raw model power, is what regulated customers will pay for.

Sovereign AI used to be a slogan. In South Florida it is becoming a product category, with a hospital as the proof.
