Governments want AI they control. Regna AI is a new company built to sell exactly that.
Palantir and Ondas formed it this week. Palantir’s headquarters is in Aventura, and Ondas is based in West Palm Beach.
It is a standalone private company, the backers say. Ondas owns it at the start and will be its first customer.
“No government should have to build its AI strategy on models or data infrastructure it does not control,” said Eric Brock, Ondas chairman and chief executive.
What Is Regna AI?
The company plans to help customers train and run mission-specialized AI models inside their own environments. That is the sovereign part, according to the companies’ release.
The models would be fine-tuned from open-weight models, using data the customer controls, Brock said.
They are meant for edge hardware. The release lists drones, stratospheric balloons, ground vehicles, surface vessels and command-and-control nodes.
Those systems often lose their connections. The release calls these denied, degraded, intermittent or limited conditions.
Operators would use the models to assess evidence, compare options and propose mission-plan updates. A human reviews and authorizes each one, the release says.
What Does Each Partner Bring?
Palantir supplies model-training infrastructure and delivery support. The new company is built on Palantir’s Artificial Intelligence Platform, known as AIP.
The two companies will also share forward-deployed engineers. Their job is to tailor the models to each customer’s workflows.
Ondas brings the first customer. It will deploy the fine-tuned models to run autonomous mission orchestration at the edge.
Ondas describes itself as a provider of autonomous systems and defense technologies. They include drones, counter-drone systems and robotic ground systems.
It builds on SkyWeaver C4I, an existing Ondas and Palantir effort. It combines surveillance from the stratosphere to the tactical edge, the release says.
The platform will support intelligence gathering, threat assessment and mission planning, Stocktwits reported. It added that the launch expands a March collaboration with World View.
Why Is Sovereign AI the Pitch?
The backers describe a trade-off for defense buyers. Commercial providers own the models they train, and mission data cannot freely cross security boundaries.
The company says it removes that trade-off. It says customers would skip the hundreds of millions to billions of dollars a from-scratch model can cost.
The launch comes as America’s AI Action Plan encourages open-source and open-weight models, the release notes.
Alex Karp, Palantir’s chief executive, put it bluntly. “Sovereign AI, trained on mission knowledge and tradecraft, outperforms frontier models while removing dependence on them.”
Karp said the company will put sovereign control “within reach of institutions that could never justify building a frontier model of their own.”
That is a claim, and the release offers no test results to support it.
Brock said he believes it can become a foundational AI platform for the U.S. Department of War, allied governments and their industrial suppliers.
The company also plans to expand beyond defense. Security, critical infrastructure and industrial markets are next on its list.
Two South Florida Headquarters, One Bet
Palantir’s SEC filings list its principal office at 19505 Biscayne Boulevard in Aventura, Fox Business reported. The company moved from Denver in February, announcing it in a brief post on X.
Ondas relocated its corporate headquarters to West Palm Beach, its January 2 release says. That release also announced plans to rename the company Ondas Inc.
The Regna AI release carries a West Palm Beach and Miami dateline.
MAIN has followed Miami’s rise as a defense tech hub. It also covered a Miami defense startup, Space Eyes, buying a Navy contractor.
The new company adds a model layer to that mix. Ondas says it is seeing significant demand and will support first deployments over the coming months.
Regna AI starts with one customer, its own parent. The next customers will decide whether the sovereign pitch holds.
