Somewhere in Miami right now, a contract is being read by a machine before a lawyer ever sees it. A litigation team searches evidence with AI instead of paralegal hours, while an insurer has outside counsel's invoices reviewed by software. Five local firms are quietly building AI into nearly every desk of the modern legal department, from intake to closing.

eBrevia built its name on AI contract analysis at scale, extracting clauses, obligations, and risks from thousands of agreements at once. The technology grew out of Columbia University research, later reacquired by its founders from DFIN in 2023.

eBrevia now calls Miami home and still handles due diligence and lease abstraction for large law firms.

Strata.ai automates the legal work that happens around the documents, not just the documents themselves. Founded by CEO Charles Irizarry, Strata builds AI agents for conflict checks, matter intake, and invoice management inside a firm's systems. It is the difference between AI that assists a lawyer and AI that runs the process a lawyer supervises.

Litmas AI focuses on litigation, the most document-heavy and evidence-dense corner of legal practice. Founder and CEO Jason Weber spent 14 years running a Miami commercial litigation firm before building the platform. It organizes evidence, drafts motions, and verifies every citation against real case law, built specifically for litigators.

LSG attacks a less visible desk: the legal bill. Led by CEO Gary Markham, the Miami company builds legal bill review software that audits outside counsel invoices for insurers. LSG says it has saved Fortune 500 clients more than $1.2 billion on legal spend to date.

DoneDeal AI is building an AI operating system for mergers and acquisitions in the lower middle market. Co-founders Anthony Fernandez and Tyler Laurence, both former M&A attorneys, built the platform to keep documents and deadlines aligned through closing. It targets the deals too small for a bulge-bracket process and too complex to run on spreadsheets alone.

One reads contracts, one automates workflow, one runs litigation, one audits bills, one closes deals. Miami's big-law corridor, from Greenberg Traurig to Akerman to Bilzin Sumberg, is watching AI arrive at the billable hour. Its own legal AI companies are quietly rebuilding how that work actually gets done, a few miles from the courthouse.
