Both companies say they're winning. The research firms tracking them can't agree on who actually is.
Delta Electronics and Vertiv have become the two most-cited names in AI data center liquid cooling, as rack densities climb past what air cooling can handle and coolant distribution units, CDUs, become essential infrastructure rather than a specialty add-on.

What Each Company Actually Sells
Delta's pitch centers on vertical integration. The company calls its approach "Grid-to-Chip," spanning everything from HVDC power architecture down to cold plates built specifically for Nvidia's Vera Rubin NVL72 platform.
Delta says its GoCool 3MW liquid-to-liquid CDU began shipping to AI data centers in March 2026. At NVIDIA's GTC conference, the company showed a 2.4-megawatt in-row CDU built natively for 800-volt DC power.
Delta also showed in-rack CDUs delivering up to 200kW of cooling per rack.
"Delta leads the industry with our comprehensive Grid-to-Chip solutions," said Ares Chen, vice president and general manager of Delta's Power and System Business Group. He argued traditional AC-DC power architectures will hit their limits within one to two years.
Vertiv's approach leans more on speed and standardization than vertical integration. Its Liebert brand has been synonymous with data center cooling for decades.
The company's newer CoolChip line includes a 2.3-megawatt liquid-to-liquid CDU alongside a smaller 350kW liquid-to-air model.
Vertiv's broader strategy centers on prefabricated, factory-assembled modular data centers, reducing onsite labor and letting operators deploy pre-tested reference designs rather than engineering each site from scratch.
The Market Share Claims Don't Agree
Here's where the comparison gets genuinely murky. One investment analysis credits Delta with more than 50% global share of white-space liquid cooling CDU systems specifically.
A separate market research firm credits Vertiv with CDU market leadership at roughly 22%. That same firm describes Delta as still "emerging competition" in the category.
Both claims can't be fully right. The disagreement likely comes down to how each firm defines the CDU market, and whether they're measuring white-space liquid cooling specifically or the broader precision cooling category Vertiv has historically dominated.
Schneider Electric is a serious third competitor that gets lost when the comparison is framed as strictly Delta versus Vertiv. The company acquired CDU specialist Motivair to strengthen its own position.
Lead Times: The Real Bottleneck Isn't the Cooling Vendor
Both companies make real deployment-speed claims. Delta says its prefabricated modular data center solution, unveiled at COMPUTEX 2026, can cut deployment time by up to 60%.
Vertiv makes a similar case for its own factory-assembled, pre-tested modular platforms.
Those claims matter less than they might sound like they do. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has put overall AI data center lead times at around 36 months from groundbreaking to operation. Those timelines are driven mainly by power availability, permitting delays and construction bottlenecks, rather than cooling equipment specifically.
Large power transformers alone can carry lead times exceeding 100 weeks. Industry estimates suggest 30% to 50% of 2026 AI data center projects are facing delays for reasons that have little to do with which CDU vendor a developer picks.
What This Means for Miami
South Florida's heat and humidity make cooling system choice more consequential here than in cooler climates, adding real cost and complexity to whichever CDU platform a Florida data center operator selects.
Several of the AI data center projects MAIN has tracked across Florida, including Metrobloks' Miami-Dade facility, have described hybrid air-and-liquid cooling architectures without publicly naming a specific CDU vendor.
As more of Florida's pipeline of proposed and under-construction facilities move toward actual equipment selection, which vendor's technology they choose is a detail worth watching closely.
That's especially true given how much disagreement exists over which company is actually ahead.
