Bear Robotics is reportedly seeking as much as $300 million in pre-IPO financing. The LG Electronics-controlled company wants investors to value it at roughly $1.5 billion ahead of a potential Nasdaq listing.

From Restaurant Robots to Industrial Platform

Bear built its name on machines that carried plates through restaurants. The reported financing round is a bet on something considerably bigger.

LG has moved fast to back that ambition. It invested $60 million in Bear in 2024. It then exercised an option to acquire an additional 30% stake, giving it majority control.

In June, Bear acquired UK-based Kinisi Robotics, adding wheeled humanoid manipulation technology to its existing navigation and fleet-management capabilities.

"Instead of starting with a humanoid and then searching for commercially useful work," the company has approached physical AI from the opposite direction, according to Automate.org's reporting on the deal.

The Scale Bear Has Already Reached

Bear says it has shipped more than 16,000 robots into commercial service across North America, Europe and Asia. That installed base is what makes the pre-IPO valuation plausible to investors.

The company's Carti platform now targets warehouses and factories, with newer industrial mobile robots already deployed in LG's own smart factories.

Miami-Dade Isn't Waiting for the IPO

While Bear seeks capital to prove its industrial pivot works, Miami-Dade County has already deployed its own version of that bet. It didn't need outside validation first.

Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced an AI-powered hologram assistant at Miami International Airport this year. She described it as the first large-scale deployment of geo-aware, agentic AI across an airport's digital infrastructure.

PortMiami got its own robotic upgrade too. New robotic hygiene systems now clean facility floors. It's part of the county's push to modernize the Cruise Capital of the World and Cargo Gateway of the Americas.

Why the Manipulation Bet Matters More Broadly

Bear's pivot mirrors a bigger question in physical AI generally. Autonomous navigation has matured over the past decade. Reliable robotic manipulation, actually handling objects rather than just moving near them, remains far harder.

South Florida's own logistics corridor spans PortMiami, Miami International Airport cargo, and the Doral and Medley warehouse districts. That's exactly the kind of dense operating environment where that manipulation gap shows up daily.

What This Means for Miami's Robotics Future

Bear's $300 million round is a bet on a company that learned to move things through restaurants. Now it wants to handle them across factories and warehouses too.

Miami-Dade's own deployments suggest local government isn't waiting to find out whether that bet pays off nationally. It's already building its own version.
