Miami's fintech AI companies keep showing up in the least glamorous corners of the money system. Underwriting decisions, supplier payment terms, embedded payment rails, and rent schedules all run through AI models now. Five local firms illustrate how differently that work can look, from bank underwriting models down to a renter's next paycheck.

QUASH.ai: AI Underwriting for Banks and Credit Unions

QUASH.ai builds AI models that help banks and credit unions say yes to more borrowers without taking on extra risk. The Miami company closed a $2.6 million round earlier this year, valuing it at $35.6 million, led by investor Joshua Siegel. "If you're not understanding that millennial need, you're losing that member," founder Yoel Gavlovski told Refresh Miami.

Calculum: AI for Supplier Payment Timing

Calculum applies AI to a different corner of finance, helping large companies figure out exactly when to pay their suppliers. Founded in 2020, the Miami platform is a spinoff of Switzerland's University of St. Gallen and now analyzes more than $3 trillion in supplier spend. Amir Cohen, its Director of Business Analytics, works out of the company's downtown Miami office.

Payabli: AI Agents for Embedded Payments

Payabli sells the plumbing behind embedded payments to software platforms serving property managers, HOAs, school districts, and local governments. The Miami company launched an AI agent suite called Amigo in July, giving platform teams plain-language answers about live payment data. Co-CEOs William Corbera and Joseph Elias Phillips started the company after a chance meeting at a Miami salsa club.

Split Pay: AI-Underwritten Bill Splitting

Split Pay, formerly known as Rent App, just relaunched under its current name with a new site and app. CEO Andrew Borovsky, previously of Cash App and Square, lets renters split their biggest bill into two smaller payments. It underwrites those splits with a proprietary Lens AI model built on real-time cash flow instead of a static credit score.

Gail: AI Voice Agents for Financial Services

Gail builds what its founders call an artificial sectoral intelligence platform for banks and insurers. Twin brothers Matthew and Michael Vega-Sanz founded the Miami company in 2024, right after selling their previous insurtech startup, Lula. Gail now answers calls, texts, and chats for more than 200 financial companies, handling millions of interactions across the Americas.

Miami's fintech AI scene isn't chasing headlines with generic chatbots wrapped around old products. It's rebuilding the actual plumbing of underwriting, supplier payments, embedded finance, and cash flow, one specific problem at a time. That kind of work rarely trends, but it's where the real money moves. These five firms are proof that unglamorous does not mean small.
